Eka Lagnachi Masta Goshta!

After a long time, I find myself hooked on to a Marathi show. Not that I haven’t watched any earlier. I have grown up on a healthy diet of excellent Marathi shows, right from ‘Abhalmaya’ , 'Prapancha' to ‘Vadaalvaat’ & 'Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre'.  They told me what beautiful stories are about.
But then, the new shows started getting crappy and I lost interest.

What brought my attention back was ‘Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta’ on Zee Marathi. Its such an amazing show! After all, when two completely different individuals, (Ghanshyam and Radha - I love that name!)  decide to get married, good humour is what you get. Add to that a huge family, mad characters, heartwarming dialogues and the outcome is nothing but a riot! So you have an adorable mother, a cousin who is a (pathetic) poetess, another cousin who is a lot more mature for his age, a mischievous grandmother, a dominating aunt (played brilliantly by Sukanya Kulkarni – its such a delight to watch her emote!) and a handful more crazy people! Another reason why I love it so much is that I find a lot of Radha in me. Her independence, her beliefs about marriage are very similar to mine. And she’s also shown to be very punctual!

Just why can’t they make more of such shows? *Sigh*.

Getaway

When was the last time you woke up at 10?
When was the last time you took a day off?
When was the last time you spent hours in the shower?
When was the last time you had a good hair day?
When was the last time you saw your favourite movie?
When was the last time you ate Dairy Milk Silk like they show in the ad?
When was the last time you ate a sub and messed up your hands?
When was the last time you cooked your favourite dish?
When was the last time you ate it all by yourself?
When was the last time you sang in the correct Sur?
When was the last time you felt proud of yourself for singing like that?
When was the last time you had the opportunity to kick somebody’s ass but you didn’t?
When was the last time you forgave and forgot?
When was the last time you let your hair down?
When was the last time you behaved like an idiot?
When was the last time you danced like there was no tomorrow?

I did ALL of this today!

P.S. - I had to gulp down a shot of vodka to dance like that! Chalo koi nahi...chalta hai!

Song of The Week

Today's song would have probably been a different composition, had this beautiful lullaby not played in my ears on my way back home. The song is 'Do Naina Aur Ek Kahaani' from one of my favourite movies, 'Masoom'.
The 1983 film boasts of other brilliant tracks by, such as 'Tujhse Naraaz' (another favourite), but it just had to be this one tonight!
This song manages to break my heart every time I see it. Jugal Hansraj's innocent eyes, the flashback...his longing for love, for acceptance tugs strings at your heart.

I particularly love the way the guitar has been used in this song. Quite a different instrument for a lullaby. Only Pancham can manage to do something like this! Add to that Gulzar's soulful words and the end result is anything but pure magic!

Enjoy Listening!

*Thodisi hai jaani hui
Thodi si nayii
Jahaan ruke aasoon wohi...
poori ho gayi...*

Song: Do Naina Aur Ek Kahaani
Film: Masoom
Music: R.D. Burman
Lyrics: Gulzar
Vocals: Aarti Mukherjee

Monday Mornings :/

What better way to start a boring week than a nice song? So, starting today, Mondays will be reserved for some evergreen songs and Fridays for movie recommendations.

Song Of The Week... coming up tonight!

Donning a new hat – of a mother!

Today’s post is dedicated to the watermelon of my eye (since I am not too fond of apples!)… Merci Joshi aka MJ! My li’l baby just turned 4 months old a couple of days back and like every mother, I think he’s the cutest baby in this world!

It wasn’t as if I’d never seen a pup on the road. But with MJ, there was some kind of a mystical bond the moment I saw him. The same bond compelled me to bring him home and face all the high-voltage drama that followed! My sobs and tears did all the work coz my father couldn’t bear to see his girl crying! And so I was allowed to keep MJ in the house provided I tend to all his needs…food, walks, hygiene, illness…EVERYTHING!

Life has been no less than a circus after that! I am still learning to juggle, to multitask. I am still learning how to make him finish his food without me running behind him for it, how to prevent him from chewing shoes or furniture, how to stop him from crying when I leave and reassuring him that I will be back home by evening. My day begins at 6 am and ends when my li’l bundle of energy chooses to go to sleep, not to forget the innumerable challenges faced throughout the day. Suddenly, things like, “Oh look! He’s lost a tooth!” or, “Aww! He’s growing up so quick!” or, “He’s learnt to climb the sofa” or “Oh shit! He’s caught a cold.” have become topics of enormous interest. A friend even said this to me yesterday – “The Pet Shop and the Vet’s Clinic are your favourite hangout places, naii?”

But I’m not complaining. It’s nice being responsible for somebody. Being patient, unselfish. He can cheer me up after a long, tiring day (yes, somebody running up to you in excitement after you’ve returned home is the world’s most awesome feeling). His brown, shiny eyes light up my day!

I was one of those people who thought motherhood is overrated. Now that I am there, all I can say is that its not all that difficult, but not a cakewalk either!

Gosh i m sooo sleepy!
You talking to me, eh?

And I'm Back!

A sudden encounter with an old companion proved to be an eye-opener.

"When was the last time you wrote something?"

"Umm...maybe like a month ago..no wait! Two months ago!"

Thank You. Thank You for making me realize. Thats the reason for this blog and I'll try and be regular here.

P.S. - Its funny how a background song plays in my head for every occasion. What played this time?

Beqarar dil is tarah mile
Jis tarah kabhi hum judaa na the
Tum bhi kho gaye..
Hum bhi kho gaye
Ek raah pe..chal ke do kadam..
Waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam
Tum rahe na tum... Hum rahe na hum..  :)
